As I Sit Here...

... I keep telling myself that it is about time for me to figure out what to do with my life. I have had several ideas in my head but this is such a tough decision, and if you know me... you know that I am not good at making decisions. I am currently enrolled into a class that is supposed to tell me what to do with my life (biggest waste of time EVER). Growing up I always wanted to be some type of teacher (dance or school). Seeing most school teachers advising me not to go into this profession I have been swayed not to, even though I haven't completely ruled out that option. No matter what I end up doing, I would really love to minor in dance. I have loved dance all my life and it's something I want to continue loving. My last semester in high school I interned with a Physical Therapist at Stanleytown Elementary School and I LOVED it! I also interned with my mother and LOVED it too. This is where my decision making comes into play. I cannot do both. My advisor also 'advised' me by saying a guidance counselor. I have no clue what to do and any advice that you all would be willing to give would help out a lot. Thanks.

  1. First I would do what you love!!! Than go from there and balance the advantages and the disadvantages of every choice you have come to. Set yourself up for a "backup" plan while your in school. If you are wanting to do teaching major in that and have a minor in dance. You could even have a second minor or even double major just in case those didn't work out. There's always that option of furthering your education after recieveing your bachelor's. It's alot to take in and alot to think about but were practically adults now and we have to make these hard decisions. You have to go with what makes you happy but at the same time look at whats going to get you through. The economy is not at its best right now so you have to take that into consideration aswell. In one of my Education class the other day he passed out a paper that showed teachers are in high demand right now especially post secondary. Amber you are a smart talented person and in the end you know what you want to do. People around you can guide in a direction but its up to you to take those steps in the direction you want your life to go. Think about this in 10 years where would you like to see yourself and what would you like to be doing? Good luck with everything!!

  2. Aww... it makes me so sad that teachers have advised you not to be a teacher! :( Teaching is the most rewarding profession there is, and it truly is the source of all other professions! Of course, we all know the money isn't the best, but the rewards are there in other ways. Hearing from students 2,3, or even 10 years down the road and having them tell you what a positive impact that you made on their lives is so rewarding. When you are a teacher you have the honor and the responsibility to shape lives, to change futures, to create destinies, to build relationships where there were none, and to show our future generations what they can be if they put their mind to it.

I know that no matter what you choose you will be successful, but I think teaching could be an amazing career for you. You are kind, thoughtful, helpful, smart, organized, conscientious, and most of all... patient! You have all of the ingredients to be an outstanding educator and I would be proud to call you a teammate! Just remember, any man can count himself successful if he is doing what he loves. (That goes for us girls, too! :) You have lots of time to make a decision, just do what makes you happy!

    Good luck!
